What is it about capybaras exactly...? Especially more recently, as the below graph will show. There's been a big uptick in capybara searches from about 2022 until now. It's not like we just discovered them so, what's the sudden interest? |

My theory is... and it's just a theory mind you... is that with the advent of short-form video content we saw a huge uptick in exposure to more unusual critters. Individuals sharing their adventures, and zoos and sanctuaries posting their furry (and not so furry) friends. As a result, more people seeing them and searching for them, and more media revolving around them.
A quick scroll through Steam, for example, for capybara or capybara-containing games shows dozens released so far this year alone. Whereas go a few more years back and it's only a handful.
Do capybaras deserve all this attention?
Of course they do, they're frickin' adorbs! 😄
